MISSISSAUGA TREE PERMIT BYLAW IS CHANGING!

As many of you are now aware the City of Mississauga has recently put forward a list of proposed amendments to its current private tree by-law. These amendments will be voted on by Mississauga City council in the fall. The proposed amendments include bringing the number of trees that you can remove in each year without a permit from four down to one. The one tree must also be under 30cm in diameter to be removed without a permit. Other major changes include the implementation of deposits to accompany your permit. In other words, the average tree that used to be free to remove will now have a $150 permit fee plus an average $1000 deposit fee! There will also be a substantial wait time associated with the permit process. Thus, delaying any required tree services work.

At Rooted Tree Services we strongly believe in keeping and developing the health of our tree canopy. We also believe that tree services companies should be properly licensed in order to stop unqualified people from engaging in dangerous and harmful work. We strongly feel that a compromise needs to be reached between the lenient current by-law and the strict amendments that the city has proposed. We want to see tax payers and home owners have the right to properly maintain their trees without having to spend too much money nor waste too much time.
