At Rooted Tree Services, we take every opportunity to celebrate and care for the trees around us in Toronto and across the GTA. The Toronto Island Tree Festival provides residents a great opportunity to learn more about our trees and to take a moment to appreciate what they give to our city.
The City of Toronto in partnership with the Canadian Tree Fund will host the second annual Toronto Tree Festival tomorrow (Saturday June 9, 2012). Celebrate the beauty and diversity of the indigenous trees that provide so many benefits to our urban environment. Gingkos, Red Buds, Scots Elm, Yellow Wood, Zelkovas and Camperdown Elms are just some of the species that festival participants will discover.
Participants can bring a bike or rent one on the island and learn the story of the Toronto Island’s arboriculture.
This year there will both be a guided walking tour and a guided cycling tour that will run approximately 2 hours. The festival will begin in the morning at 10:15 a.m. (boat leaves ferry docks at 10:00 a.m.) with the annual Tour of Trees guided by forestry experts and tree enthusiasts. Franklin Children’s Garden will host the actual festival and the gates open at 12:30 p.m. The Toronto Tree Festival will host a variety of Children’s activities and programs as well as tree plantings, tree climbing and rescue demonstrations, tree and eco art installations by local artists as well as a TREE-mendous mini vendor village catering to tree enthusiasts alike. BBQ fare will be made available by Centreville Foods.
